Eric Teo is the head chef of the Mandarin Oriental in Singapore. Chef Teo was recently elected president of the Singapore Chef's Association, making him the first Singaporean to hold the position. As team adviser for the Singapore Culinary Team, he has actively participated in judging culinary contests throughout the world and teaching young cooks. Numerous medals and honours have been given to Chef Teo over the years in recognition of his accomplishments in the food sector. An annual gourmet spectacular called the World Gourmet Summit has helped Singapore become known as a global food hub. At the IKA 2000 Culinary Olympics in Erfurt, Chef Teo, as the captain of the Singapore culinary team, Chef Teo guided the group to a sixth-place finish and six medals, including two Olympic gold medals. He again led the group in 2002 in the Culinary World Cup at Expogast, Luxembourg, where they came in second place. The team garnered four medals in 2004. Chef Teo won the Best Western Cuisine Chef honor at the Hospitality Asia Platinum Awards in the same year.
